Lee High Media Arts Students Win State Award

Lee High Media Arts Cinematography students are the 1st place winners of a statewide video contest sponsored by the Alabama Association of School Boards. The challenge for middle and high school students was to produce a video of no more than 60 seconds around the theme of “How We Achieve Excellence in Our School.” There were over twenty-four submissions from schools across Alabama which were judged by a group of video production professionals.

Juniors and seniors in the Lee High Performing Arts Magnet began working on the video earlier this semester. Media and theater students collaborated to produce the work. Dillon Lee, instructor of the cinematography classes at the school, said their focus of the project was to make it visual. “We live by the rule show, not tell,” and if you can tell a story without words it is truly using the medium in its purest form. Roy Albright, a junior at Lee said they were “super happy because we worked so hard on this video,” adding that “it was a sign of relief” to hear about the first-place finish.

Lee High’s video, along with the 2nd place, 3rd place, and honorable mention winners will be shown at the State Board of Education Meeting in June. Members from Lee High School will attend a ceremony at the Alabama Association of School Board’s annual convention in December to receive their award, along with $1,500 for their 1st place video.
