Shelman Miller
I am Mr. Shelman D. Miller, band director at Columbia High School. I am a native of Atlanta, GA. After being introduced to the piano at age six, I began learning the violin as a part of my elementarty school orchestra. While continuing private piano lessons, I won several superior ratings in the National Piano Guild Competitions. I graduated from Benjamin Elijah Mays High School, and was a member of every performing ensemble; Marching Band, Symphonic Band, Concert Band, and Jazz Band. I have performed for the Georgia Music Educators Association while in high school, was the principal tuba player for the Atlanta Public Schools Youth Orchestra, and was selected to be a member of the 1996 Atlanta Centennial Olympic Marching Band.
I now reside in Huntsville, AL and have taught in Huntsville City Schools since 2002. I stay musically active by performing with community concert bands. I have also performed in ensembles to accompany the Aeolians of Oakwood University, as well as the Alabama A & M University Choir. I am also the tuba player for Coolbone Brass Band, and have toured several countries including Ecuador, France, Italy, and Turkey. I am also an adjunct instructor for low brass music majors at Alabama A & M as well as an assistant director.
