Tara Thorne
I started teaching at Huntsville High School in 2022 l, but began teaching in 2007. I taught Spanish I and II at the high school level for 11 years in Tennessee, before moving to Alabama. I taught for four years at the middle school and junior high level, and I'm much happier being back in high school now.
Most people wonder why I decided to be a Spanish teacher, because I wasn't fortunate enough to grow up speaking the language. I went on my first mission trip to Honduras at age 14, and I fell in love with the country and its people. I wanted so badly to be able to talk to people without having to use a translator, so I decided to try my hardest to learn Spanish. I took four years of it in high school, while spending my summers volunteering at a children's home in Panama and going on mission trips, then I majored in Spanish in college, which meant four more years of classes and a two month study abroad program in Mexico.
I began my Spanish journey the same way that my students do... in a classroom. I understand how difficult and frustrating learning a language can be, simply because I've been there. I do my best to help my students learn, and if they will give me their best effort, they will be successful in my class.
