Sylvia Cortes
Greetings Friends! My name is Ms. Cortes and I am ecstatic to teach elementary Art within Huntsville City Schools! I am privileged to share art history and techniques to the young creatives of the future. I am a Hispanic Artist based in Huntsville, AL, and I glean inspiration from my divided, cultural upbringing. By integrating techniques of memory encapsulation, my artistic practice became a catalog for the impactful phases of my life.
In my art: flowering lace accents recall my Abuelito’s history as a Craftsman Immigrant who came to the U.S to work as a Lace Weaver. I have a strong passion for animals (as I have four fur babies), and I am a Vegan! I used to run Collegiate Track & Field at UAH... specializing in the 800 meter dash. My favorite contemporary painter is Ryan Hewett, and I take a lot of inspiration from this quote:
"In Art, the hand can never execute anything higher than the Heart can imagine. " ~Ralph Waldo Emerson
