Alphus Shipman Sr.
I am overly excited to be the principal of Williams Middle School. I have 25 dedicated years in the field of education, serving as a passionate advocate for student success, my fellow educators and parent engagement. I have a background in instructional leadership earning my Bachelor’s degree from Alabama State University, my Masters and Educational Specialist degrees from the University of Alabama.
Throughout my career, I have held various roles within educational leadership. This includes my role serving as an assistant principal at Westlawn Middle School in Tuscaloosa, Al and advancing to principal at U.S Jones Elementary in Demopolis, Al. My leadership philosophy emphasizes academic excellence, creating a nurturing environment, personal growth, and character development. I believe in the power of diversity and embrace the unique backgrounds, talents, and perspectives of each individual within our school community. I am an advocate for our teachers and creating an environment conducive to student learning. Parental and stakeholder involvement is equally vital to the success of our school community.
Outside of my professional endeavors, I enjoy spending time with my wife of 23 years, our children and grandchild. I also enjoy fishing and hunting and am an active member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. I believe in the power of education and its ability to transform lives and I look forward to continuing to make a difference in the lives of students and the community of Williams Middle School.
