Celebrating Read Across America

Last week was Read Across America Week- a week dedicated to encourage and celebrate reading. At ASFL, both students and teachers celebrated with a week of activities coordinated by our Library Media Specialist, Ms. Brown. Each day had a different dress up theme based on a book. Monday was Athletic Day for the book Salt in His Shoes; Tuesday was Wear Your Favorite Color Day for the book The Crayon Box That Talked; Wednesday was Wacky Tacky Wednesday for the book Wacky Wednesday; Thursday was School Spirit Day for School's First Day of School; and Friday was Pajama Day for Llama Llama Red Pajama.

We also had a couple of contests throughout the week. Teachers participated in a door decorating contest, choosing a books that teaches one of the IB Learner Profiles taught throughtout the year. The winner was chosen by our Student Council. Congratulations to Ms. Morris, a 4th grade teacher, on being this year's winner! Students participated in a book trivia contest. Each day, a trivia question was read during morning announcements. The student whose correct answer was submitted quickest by his/her teacher won! Congratulations to all of the winners!

Of course, it wouldn't be Read Across America Week without a lot of reading! Students got to hear stories from district leaders, city leaders, Library Media Specialists from around the city, and students from our middle school. We had a great time celebrating this week, and can't wait to see what next year holds!
