The ASFL Elementary Black History exhibition was a great success! Students from each grade level presented about the achievements and contributions of black people in our country’s history. 4th grade kicked the program off with a song, “Lean on Me”, and displayed their research projects for a gallery walk. Some 5th grade students created and starred in a video about the importance of celebrating and learning black history. Our 3rd graders did bottle biographies including research of different figures in black history and models of that person using a 2L bottle. A group of 2nd graders shared selected readings about different people, while another group shared letters they wrote to Ruby Bridges. 1st grade gave a preview of their living wax museum with students dressed up as different historical figures and sharing about their lives. Finally, kindergarten shared about 2 of the people they’ve learned about in their Hero-a-Day coloring books they’ve worked on all month. A huge shout out to the organizers of this, and all of our Black History Month events; and an even bigger shoutout to all of our students for their hard work and presentations!
