Principal's Message 1-9-23

Dear Blossomwood families,

What a great first week of school for 2023! We are looking forward to this week being a regular, five day week filled with learning! In fact, report cards will be sent home with students in Blossomwood folders on Wednesday.

Special Visit from Mrs. Finley

Mrs. Finley visited our school the week prior to the winter break! She helped open doors in the rainy morning car line, and she also made time to be part of our Blossomwood Network News (BNN). Thanks for supporting Blossomwood, Mrs. Finley!

Mrs. Finley appears on our morning new show along two student anchors.

Congratulations to Mrs. Cottrell, HCS Support Person of the Year

We are proud to share that our very own Mrs. Sherri Cottrell, our office manager, has been recognized as the Huntsville City Schools Support Person of the Year!  This is Mrs. Cottrell's second year working at Blossomwood. Her strong work ethic, kindness, and high level of expectations help make Blossomwood Elementary a great place for students, teachers, and families!

December Holiday PTA Meeting

Our Holiday PTA Meeting with the K-2 Sing-A-Long as well as performances by our choir and band was a great time for all last month! It was standing-room only! The music provide by our students was beautiful. Thank you to all of our families for coming out to support the children, and thank you to Ms. Stewart (music teacher), Mrs. Hutchins (Gr. 6 Band), and Mrs. Hoppe-McQueen (Gr .6 Choir).  Special thanks to our PTA Decoration Committee led by Mrs. Samples and Mrs. Rogers. Our students and families enjoyed holiday decorations from various winter holidays!

Winter Holiday Learning Challenge

Each year we encourage our students to continue learning during extended breaks such as Winter Break. The Winter Break Learning Challenge included a reading, math, and family event challenge. Congratulations to everyone that completed the Winter Break Learning Challenge!  We had 52 students that chose to participate in the holiday learning challenge.

  • Each student that completed the challenge during Fall Break received a coupon for a certificate to Applebee's for a free Oreo Shake or kids meal!
  • In addition, the students received tickets for a special drawing for completing the challenge of reading for 20 minutes for at least five days, practicing math for 20 minutes for at least five days, and/or writing about a family event from the break.
  • The prizes for the drawing included: two science experiment kits (one for archaeology and one for growing gemstones and crystals), wireless headphones, packs of gel pens, the family game Connect 4, detachable gaming speakers, wireless speakers with LED lights, a large container of Sour Punch Twists, a large container of candy Airheads, a huge box of sidewalk chalk, a milkshake tag for a free frosty from Wendy's (unlimited times), and gift card to McDonald's!

We will have another holiday learning challenge for Spring Break. Our goal will remain the same with us encouraging students to develop the habit of learning and reading on a daily basis.

Students hold the prizes they received for participating in our December holiday learning challenge.

Thanks again for all that you do at home to make Blossomwood a great place for learning!

Sincerely,

Bradley A. Scott, Ed.D.
