Man working on tablet

Dear Blossomwood families,

Thank you to everyone who came out for the Fall Festival last Saturday. What a great time, and special thanks to all of our volunteers, including the Huntsville High Baseball Team! #Teamwork

We are often asked, "What can we be doing at home to help our child?" Here are a few things that can be done daily to increase your child's academic success.

Reading

Your child needs to read independently or with an adult for at least 15-20 minutes every day at home. Your child could even read to a sibling, a pet, or a stuffed animal for practice.

Math

Encourage your child to work on basic math facts such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and/or division. As you know, these can never be practiced enough. Reflex and Khan Academy are great online resources that we use at school, and they can be used at home, too.

Journal/Illustrating

Many students can benefit from putting their thoughts on paper either in words or pictures. For example, older students often enjoy writing an alternate ending or writing a pretend letter to one of the characters from their book/story. Others enjoy writing a paragraph of two or three sentences about what they thought about the book. Lastly, younger students often enjoy illustrating or drawing their favorite scene from the book/story. Bottomline, we want them to think about what they are reading.

Book Character Parade

Last Friday, we had a wonderful Book Character Parade for grades PreK-2. The upstairs had pajama day as part of Red Ribbon Week.

Let's have a great week!
