Black History Month Program

February is Black History Month, with fun learning activities planned throughout the month.

On Friday, February 17th, our students were treated to a special program organized by Ms. Green and the Black History Month Committee. Third grade students sang while selected fourth grade students played drums which was orchestrated by our Music teacher, Mr. Forsythe.

Retired Chaffee teacher, Ms. Angela Walker, also read a book entitled, 'To Be a Drum'. This book tells a story of how the drum has been a powerful symbol to African roots, and shares how the drum was the underlying heartbeat of the African people through the time of being enslaved, war, and the civil rights movement. Accompanied by Ms. Walker, was the Huntsville Stickmasters. The students here at Chaffee enjoyed the cadences that were played on the drums by this amazing group. A special thank you to all participants of this special day.
