Chaffee Elementary News 2/20/2023

Principal's Pen

Greetings CES Families,

February is Black History Month, with fun learning activities planned throughout the month. On Friday our students were treated to a special program organized by Ms. Green. Third grade students sang while selected fourth grade students played drums. Retired Chaffee teacher, Ms. Angela Walker, also read a book to our students and brought her Stickmasters to entertain our crown with their drumming. We’re looking forward to the Wax Museum this week!

Registration for the 2023-24 school year is now open. A snapcode was sent to the primary email address on file. Please complete registration as soon as possible so that we can plan for next year. The district will determine our number of teachers for next year based on registration. We would love to earn additional teachers so that our class sizes decrease. Please encourage your friends to register as soon as possible. You can reach out to Ms. Cothren or Ms. Saylor with any questions.

ATTENDANCE…it is so important for our students to be at school daily unless excluded for medical reasons. Once a students misses more than 18 school days, (s)he is considered chronically absent, which counts against our school on our state report card grade. Missing 18 days of school a year is roughly two days a month. There is so much learning going on every day, our students can not afford to miss two days of school a month. We do have Truancy practices in place that I must follow to address unexcused absences and chronic absenteeism. If your family has a special circumstance, please reach out to me so that we can make a plan to support your student.

I look forward to seeing you at our PTA Meeting on Tuesday, February 21. At this meeting we will have our spring State of the School Address to share academic data, attendance data, school initiatives, and our pathway forward. We will also have student artwork on display for our Night at the Museum event.

Soar Eagles,

April Clark

Principal

It is vital that students are present each day unless sick. Students are allowed a limit of 7 parent sick notes a year. Students are considered truant if they have more than three unexcused absences at any time or if they have more than 18 absences for the year, whether the absences are excused or unexcused.

Please send excuse notes to your child's teacher or email them to sarah.cothren@hsv-k12.org.
