Chaffee Elementary News 2/13/2023

Principal's Pen

Greetings CES Families,

On Friday our students enjoyed a presentation by the Auburn Raptor group. I would like to thank the family of Chaffe student Hattie Thomas for generously paying the cost of this event so that our students got to experience it for free. I hope your students came home and told you about the raptors flying right over their heads—they were so excited!

Our Valentine’s Day parties (schedule below) are this Tuesday, and of course parents/guardians are welcome to attend (no siblings over six months old, please). Students are allowed to bring Valentines for their classmates. As a reminder, all food items should be store bought. Please reach out to your child’s teacher with any questions.

ATTENDANCE…it is so important for our students to be at school daily unless excluded for medical reasons. Once a students misses more than 18 school days, (s)he is considered chronically absent, which counts against our school on our state report card grade. Missing 18 days of school a year is roughly two days a month. There is so much learning going on every day, our students can not afford to miss two days of school a month. We do have Truancy practices in place that I must follow to address unexcused absences and chronic absenteeism. If your family has a special circumstance, please reach out to me so that we can make a plan to support your student.

Please save the date for our next PTA Meeting, which will be on Tuesday, February 21. At this meeting we will have our spring State of the School Address to share academic data, attendance data, school initiatives, and our pathway forward. We will also have student artwork on display for our Night at the Museum event.

Soar Eagles,

April Clark

Principal

Our Lost & Found area is overflowing! Please tell your child to look for his/her missing items. We will donate all remaining items at the end of February.

Attendance

It is vital that students are present each day unless sick. Students are allowed a limit of 7 parent sick notes a year. Students are considered truant if they have more than three unexcused absences at any time or if they have more than 18 absences for the year, whether the absences are excused or unexcused.

Please send excuse notes to your child's teacher or email them to sarah.cothren@hsvk12.org
