Theme: Strength Behind Us, Greatness Ahead of Us

February is Black History Month. In addition to grade level activities, the following school wide activities are planned:

Activities for Black History Month

  1. Daily Trivia, Black History questions will be presented on the morning news. One student will collect class answers and put them in the box provided(located outside the TV studio). Winning names will be drawn, and students will receive a prize. The correct answer will be given on the following day. Students may only win once. In addition to the daily trivia contest, during the Fact of the Day segment, an African American history fact will be presented.

  2. Bulletin Boards, banners, signs and pictures will be displayed around the building. These will help students find the information for the daily trivia questions.

  3. Art/Music teachers will conduct lessons in conjunction with Black History Month.

  4. Librarian will present African folklore and display literature and artifacts for students to view.

  5. 4th Grade Wax Museum- The 4th grade students will present a Wax Museum of famous African Americans in the cafeteria on February 27th.

  6. Bio Buddies- Ms. Booker's GATE students will create a bio buddy that will represent an important figure in Black History.

  7. Students will view the following videos at 8:30 a.m. on the following days:

  • Monday- (2/5) : Our Friend Martin

  • Tuesday- (2/6) : Our Friend Martin

  • Monday- (2/12) : Jesse Owens/ Ella Fitzgerald

  • Tuesday- (2/20) : Maya Angelou/Frederick Douglass

  • Monday- (2/26) : Our Friend Martin

  1. Black History Month Program- February 23rd @ 1:00 (Wear a Black History Month t-shirt)

  2. African Dress Day- February 26th
