Principal's Pen
Greetings Chaffee Families,
February is Black History Month, with fun learning activities planned throughout the month. On Friday our students were treated to a special program organized by Ms. Green and the Black History Month Committee. It was an amazing program with 5th grade students teaching us about influential African Americans, the Lee High School Choir, and a special read aloud by HCS Director of Elementary Instruction, Mr. Larry Saulsberry. Superintendent Sutton shared remarks and complimented our students over and over for their amazing behavior and hard work. We’re looking forward to the Wax Museum this week!
This week is going to be a busy week of parent and family events. I hope you make plans to attend the various events:
Monday, February 26: Alabama Literacy Act Informational Meeting, Grissom High School Theatre, 5:30pm
Tuesday, February 27: Federal Programs Parent Meeting focused on test taking tips and strategies, Chaffee Cafeteria, 9am
Thursday, February 29: Leap Ahead Learning Parent Focus Meeting & Flow Family Spirit Night, Flow Trampoline Park, 5pm
Friday, March 1: District Registration Support, Grissom Internet Café, 12-6pm (Spanish interpreter will be on site)
Friday, March 1: PTA Meeting and Decades Bash, Chaffee Cafeteria, 5:30pm
Read Across America Week kicks off Friday! Students are asked to dress as their favorite decade since the Decades Bash is Friday night! Please see the flyer below for each day’s theme. We try to keep our themed days simple so that everyone can participate and not feel overwhelmed.
Registration for the 2024-25 school year is now open. An email with directions was sent from the district to the primary email address on file for each student. Please complete registration as soon as possible so that we can plan for next year. Please encourage your friends to register as soon as possible. You can reach out to Ms. Cothren or Ms. Saylor with any questions.
Soar Eagles,
