Principal's Pen

Greetings Chaffee Families,

Our students, faculty, and staff had a colorful blast at Thursday’s Eagle Run. So far we have raised $4,600. Donations will still be accepted through Friday! Thank you to everyone who helped make the Eagle Run a success, especially our PTA President, Julie Morrow! If you see her, please thank her for making sure our events are amazing!

K for a Day is Tuesday, April 30. Please tell your friends who have rising kindergarten students. The flyer is below.

Please join us Tuesday evening for our Spring Title I Meeting at 5:00pm, followed by our PTA Meeting and student performance at 5:30pm. Family Literacy Night will be held from 6:15-8:00pm. The Book Fair will be open from 6:15-7:15pm. A food truck and Rocket City Shaved Ice will be on site. Parking is available at Community Fellowship Church. Please see the flyer below for more information, as well as the email that was sent last week. It’s going to be a fun night!

Our monthly attendance challenge is underway! The grade level with the best attendance this month wins a cookie party and extra recess. Kindergarten is currently in the lead! Students should be at school unless they are excluded for illness. Please send an excuse note/email or call the front office following each absence so that the absence can be coded as excused when possible. Thank you for your continued help with this!

This week we will begin DIBELS testing for grades K-3. This test only takes about 10 minutes per student and is an excellent indicator of early literacy skills. We will also begin our final i-Ready Reading and Math tests of the school year. Each of these tests will take about an hour. We hope to see a lot of growth from the beginning of the year test. Student results will help our teachers to know where to start with individualized instruction next year.

If you've been unable to attend any of our Title 1 Parent Focus Meetings and would like to receive a digital copy of resources/handouts, please email our Parent Coordinator, Ms. Bush. Categories include: Picky Eating, Leap Ahead Learning, Online Safety, Raising Readers, and Summer Slump.

Our Awards Day Celebrations will be held in May. Please see the flyer below for grade level specific times. Students can earn the following awards: All As, All As & Bs, Excellent Attendance, i-Ready Reading/Math Growth, and Governors’ Physical Fitness. There will be other awards given specific to each grade level. We hope that you can join us to celebrate our students.

We still have families who need to complete registration for the 2024-25 school year. Please encourage your friends to register as soon as possible. You can reach out to Ms. Cothren with any questions. Please complete registration as soon as possible so that we can better plan for next year.
