Greetings Chaffee Families,

We enjoyed welcoming parents and grandparents at school last week! Thanks to your support our Book Fair was a success. The money raised will help support our library, which benefits every student.

Our Fall Festival is Friday, November 1, and we hope to see you there! We still need volunteers. Have a high school student who needs volunteer hours? They can volunteer too! Volunteer here. We need everyone to pitch in to make this event possible!

Next week is Red Ribbon Week. We hope your child will take part in our planned activities so that together we can raise awareness about healthy choices.

Did you know that we have more student absences on Mondays and Fridays than on any other day of the week? When your child misses school on a Monday, (s)he misses new content that is related to that week’s reading story. Missing a Monday is like missing two days of instruction. When your child misses school on a Friday, (s)he misses the opportunity to take weekly tests with the class. This means your child has to take his/her weekly tests the following week while the rest of the class moves on with new instruction, putting your child even further behind. We’ve come a long way in improving our attendance over the past two school years, but until we improve attendance on Mondays and Fridays, our students cannot reach their full academic potential. Please help us by ensuring your child is only absent when (s)he is excluded for sickness (fever, vomiting, contagious sickness). Thank you!

Please remember that students need tennis shoes/sneakers for PE daily. Wearing proper shoes prevents injuries.

April Clark
