Principal's Pen
Greetings Chaffee Families,
I can hardly believe it’s already February! We had a lot of sickness during the month of January, which I hope is behind us now! February brings many exciting events to enoy!
Our 1st graders will kick off their Eagle Readers challenge on Friday and will have a ‘Reading Round-Up’ for the next ten weeks. First graders will bring links to school to represent the books and chapters of books they read at home. We love to see the links grow in the hallway!
Chaffee & the Chocolate Factory will continue all month, ending on March 3. Our goal is to sell 315 boxes of chocolate. We are over halfway to our goal! Keep up the great work!
This month we will also have Valentine’s Day parties. Students are allowed to bring Valentines for their classmates. Classroom teachers will provide more information about this. As a reminder, all food items should be store bought. Since we have a half day of school on Valentine’s Day, teachers are getting creative with the party schedule. Your child’s teacher will share party details with you.
February is Black History Month. Ms. Green and the Black History Month Committee have planned exciting educational activities related to Black History Month, including daily trivia with prizes. Our Black History Month program will be held later this month, in conjunction with Grissom High School.
Please save the date for our next spirit night, which will be on Thursday, February 20, at Flow Trampoline Park. See the flyer below for more details.
We want our students to be Number Ninjas! Keep practicing math facts with your child(ren)!
Chaffee Elementary will be hosting 6 Families and Schools Together (F.A.S.T.) Meetings beginning Tuesday, January 28, and continuing each Tuesday until March 4. F.A.S.T. Meetings will take place in the cafeteria from 5:30-7:30pm. There will be free food and Chaffee teachers on hand to supervise Chaffee students while their parents attend F.A.S.T. Meetings. Any children who are not Chaffee students will need to stay with their parents during these meetings. Please see the flyer below for topics. If you would like to attend one or more F.A.S.T. Meetings, please email Jenna Goodson at jgoodson@fsc-hsv.org to reserve your spot and to get included in our headcount for food. Please include the number of adults and children that will be attending. While there is no limit to the number of attendees for the F.A.S.T. Meetings, we will only be able to supervise the first 30 Chaffee students that RSVP. We would love to see you there!
Please remember that students need tennis shoes/sneakers for PE daily. Wearing proper shoes prevents injuries.
Soar Eagles,
April Clark
