Greetings Chaffee Families,
February is Black History Month, with fun learning activities planned throughout the month. On Friday our students were treated to a special program organized by Ms. Green and the Black History Month Committee. It was an amazing program held in conjunction with Grissom High School. We’re looking forward to the Black History Month Wax Museum put on by our 4th graders this week!
Chaffee & the Chocolate Factory will continue all month, ending on March 3. Our goal is to sell 315 boxes of chocolate. We are over three quarters of the way to our goal! Keep up the great work!
Read Across America Week kicks off next week! We have fun and simple dress up days planned for the week. Please see the flyer below for each day’s theme. We try to keep our themed days simple so that everyone can participate and not feel overwhelmed.
Registration for the 2025-26 school year is now open. A snapcode was sent to the primary email address on file. Please complete registration as soon as possible so that we can plan for next year. The district will determine our number of teachers for next year based on registration. We would love to earn additional teachers so that our class sizes decrease. Please encourage your friends to register as soon as possible. You can reach out to Ms. Cothren or Ms. Carter with any questions.
Spring ACAP Testing is right around the corner--see the testing schedule below. Please make sure students arrive to school on time, eat a healthy breakfast at home or at school, and have a charged laptop. Please encourage your child to do his/her best. Every test is practice for the next test!
Chaffee Elementary will be hosting 6 Families and Schools Together (F.A.S.T.) Meetings beginning Tuesday, January 28, and continuing each Tuesday until March 4. F.A.S.T. Meetings will take place in the cafeteria from 5:45-7:30pm. There will be free food and Chaffee teachers on hand to supervise Chaffee students while their parents attend F.A.S.T. Meetings. Any children who are not Chaffee students will need to stay with their parents during these meetings. Please see the flyer below for topics. If you would like to attend one or more F.A.S.T. Meetings, please email Jenna Goodson at jgoodson@fsc-hsv.org to reserve your spot and to get included in our headcount for food. Please include the number of adults and children that will be attending. While there is no limit to the number of attendees for the F.A.S.T. Meetings, we will only be able to supervise the first 30 Chaffee students that RSVP. We would love to see you there!
ATTENDANCE…it is so important for our students to be at school daily unless excluded for medical reasons. Once a student misses more than 17 school days, (s)he is considered chronically absent, which counts against our school on our state report card grade. Missing 18 days of school a year is roughly two days a month. There is so much learning going on every day, our students can not afford to miss two days of school a month. We do have Truancy practices in place that I must follow to address unexcused absences and chronic absenteeism. If your family has a special circumstance, please reach out to me so that we can make a plan to support your student. Last year we had 25 students who were chronically absent. We want to cut that number in half this year! We know sickness hit our school hard in January and early February, but we hope everyone stays healthy for the remainder of the year!
