Professors from all over the state visit Columbia to learn about VR Prism instruction sitting at tables

On January 25, 2024, about 50 college professors from colleges all over our state came to Huntsville to attend the Exploring Today's Classroom Conference. Exploring Today's Classroom is a conference that is hosted by the ALSDE with the purpose of giving college educators an insight into learning styles and current technology use in the classroom to better prepare future educators for the classroom.

Because Columbia High School has amazing teachers who use technology appropriately to enhance learning in the classroom, they were selected as schools to visit during the conference. The goal of this visit is for the professors to see technology use in the classroom as well as experience some of the technology we use in our district. About 20 professors visited Columbia High School. They visited Mr. Daly, Mrs. Graves and Mrs. McDaniel's math classes and observed instruction using Prisms VR.

In one class, students were exploring the effects of glaciers melting, specifically the effects that it has on the real world in places like Miami. The students created and interpreted graphs relating to linear functions and the melting rate of three different glaciers over a span of years.

After their classroom visits, the group of College Professors reconvened in the library and used the Prism VR headsets in a math lesson.
