Hello Challenger Elementary Family,
Good afternoon,
We hope you all are having an awesome weekend!
January is School Board Recognition Month and Gifted Education Month! I would like to take this time to recognition our very own, District 3 Huntsville City School Board Member, Ms. Andrea Alvarez and our fantastic Gifted (GATE) Teachers! Ms. Alvarez, Mrs. Cottingham, and Mrs. Wortendyke work tirelessly for our students! Please join us in celebrating them by sending in sweet notes and/or treats from your child(ren) to show them
appreciation.
We have completed our middle-of-the-year data and we are so proud of our student’s growth! We will be making some adjustments to our After-School Tutoring Program this week. We've analyzed the data and will be offering tutoring opportunities for students that need additional support with reading and/or math. This week we will give out new applications to students that qualified for after-school tutoring for this semester.
Curriculum Showcase (for parents of 6th graders):
The Curriculum Showcase will be Saturday, February 4th at the VBC East Hall from 9:00am-12:00pm.
Each middle school will have a booth. Registration for middle school classes will open on Monday, February 7th.
We have many things coming up this week! Please see the list of upcoming events for our students and parents below.
Upcoming Dates & Reminders
• Soda Donation Drive for CES Faculty & Staff
• PTA Fundraiser - Nothing Bundt Cake - send in the order form or Nothing Bundt Cake Fundraiser
Daily instruction begins at 8am. Please have your child to school prior to 8am. We know and understand events may take place that can prevent your child(ren) from attending school, such as a sickness, but be sure to send in excuse notes/letters to Mrs. Freeman (Danna.Freeman@hsv-k12-org) and Ms. Humphrey (Kendra.Humphrye@hsv-k12.org) in the front office as soon as possible following their absence. Tardy and attendance letters will be go out weekly. Please remember that we can only accept up to 7 parent excuses per
school year. Also, vacations/trips cannot be approved as an excused absence. Late check-in and early check-out can cause disruptions to your child's learning. Please be mindful of this as you plan. Please see HCS year calendar for our scheduled breaks.
Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or concerns and we will be more than happy to help!
Here’s to a great week of learning and growing at CES!
Love yall!!
Ms. Joiner
