Greetings Bulls,
I do not envy the responsibility you have in helping your children learn to navigate social media safely. My own children are now adults, and times have changed even in just the past three years when I still had children at home.
I want to share a few things I have learned from addressing social media concerns that impact students while at school. They might help you at home!
You can utilize one of the many apps that enable monitoring, but there is nothing that beats sitting down with your child and having them show you the apps and games they are using in detail. Take your time. Talk and listen.
Consider using the apps yourself and playing the games. Once inside an app or game, the content can change significantly. Some apps hide other apps from home screens and apps designed for parent monitoring. Some apps appear to be one thing but when you open them they are different.
Look through deleted apps; a tricky technique is to install and uninstall apps.
You can order anything for delivery to any location through apps on the phone (not just food). Our students have access to literally anything.
I appreciate all you are doing within the values of your family and beliefs to help our children learn how to navigate the social media world they will undoubtedly exist in. Rearing children is exhausting but try to savor the stress and chaos - before you know it, they will be gone. Middle school does not last long!
Go Bulls!
