7 Jaguars from Mae Jemison's Wrestling Team have qualified for the AHSAA State Championships. George Mullins (175lbs.) was the Jags highest finisher with a 2nd place finish at the AHSAA North Super Section Tournament falling 6-3 in his final match in a back-and-forth affair. Robert Jones (157lbs.) and Kyonne Rogers (190lbs.) both completed their tournament in 3rd place, while Derrick SantaCruze (285lbs.) and Jeremiah Gambles (215lbs) finished right behind them in 4th place in their respective weight classes. Jorden Rice made the semifinals before falling to 4th place in the 126lb. weight class. The last Jag to qualify was Russell Yarbrough who ended up in 6th place in the 106lb. weight class. In addition to the qualifiers Mehki Simpson (132lbs.) and Joseph London (138lbs.) both won matches at the North Section Tournament which contributed to a 7th place finish for Mae Jemison.
Each of the wrestlers will compete this week at the Von Braun Center in Huntsville from February 15th-17th for a chance at a State Championship.
