Painted Lady Butterfly Release

After learning about the life cycle of Butterflies, the 2nd graders have waited patiently for their butterfly eggs to change into cocoons, then hatch. Today many were released into the wild of the Playground. Slowly, slowly the active butterflies escaped their netted cage to the thrill of giddy students. Not all the butterflies were ready for release. After breaking out of the cocoon, the butterfly's wing must wait 2 hours before flight. On Monday the remaining butterflies will fly away across Jones Valley. Thanks to the 2nd grade teachers for making Science come alive!
