Corey Battles was selected as Mountain Gap Middle School’s Staff Person of the Year! Not only was Officer Battles selected as Staff Person of the Year but he was also selected as Staff Person of the Month for November!
The official position Corey Battles holds at Mountain Gap is our Campus Security Officer (CSO). He has been a CSO for more than twenty years at several schools throughout the District. He works diligently every day to keep our teachers and students safe during the day and evening activities. He works with the administration, staff, and students on both the elementary and the middle school sides. Whenever he is called, he brings his cool, confident demeanor to de-escalate any situation.
Mr. Battles is also our boys’ and girls’ basketball coach. Officer Battles cares about our students on the court and in the classroom. He knows they are students first and he wants them to succeed in life. He is more than a coach, he is a mentor to our students. It never fails that when we do our lesson with the students to help them identify a person they can trust on campus and run to when they need help, several students select Officer Battles. The kids know they can count on him and that says a lot!
