This year two of MGMS’ Cyber Patriot teams, for the first time ever, placed 1st and 3rd  in the State in the 16th Annual Airforce Association’s Cyber Patriot National Youth Cyber State Round Competition. This is quite an accomplishment! Last year one of our teams finished 2nd, and 2 years ago one of our teams placed first in our 5-state district in the District Finals competition. Coach Platt says, “I couldn’t be prouder of what we have accomplished over the years, and I’m especially excited and proud of what this year’s teams have accomplished.”

Mountain Gap’s Cyber Patriot teams are known throughout the HCS District and all of Madison County, as well as throughout the State of Alabama, as leaders in understanding operating systems and securing shared workstations. Using virtual software, students learn how to act as security administrators for Windows 10, Windows Server 2022, and in Linux Ubuntu. They also learn about how to build and manage small and large networks using the virtual software Cisco Packet Tracer.

Winning team members will be recognized later this spring during an annual event at UAH sponsored by Cyber Huntsville, a local organization that brings together education and industry to address concerns in cyber security. The president of UAH, along with Mayor Tommy Battle, will speak at the event. The teams will receive a beautiful trophy for the MGMS trophy case!

Team members of winning teams included:

1st Place: Marshall Turner, Noah Dervis, Rain Hunter, Jesse Densmore

3rd Place: Whitson Jenkins, Owen Smith, Chandler Mehan, Arthur Best
