In our Introduction to Cyber Security class, students participate in Mountain Gap's CyberPatriot Club.
CyberPatriot is the National Youth Cyber Education Program created by the Air & Space Forces Association to inspire K-12 students toward careers in cybersecurity or other science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) disciplines critical to our nation's future. At the core of the program is the National Youth Cyber Defense Competition, the nation's largest cyber defense competition that puts high school and middle school students in charge of securing virtual networks.
This year we have 3 teams, and all 3 teams did well in the Introductory and 2 Preliminary competition rounds. Then, on December 13th, one of our teams--The "Scallywags"--placed 3rd out of 31 teams in the State Competition! They will receive a trophy for the school and participate in an awards ceremony at UAH in April. We can all be proud of the Scallywags!
All 3 of our teams qualified to advance to the National Semifinal Round on January 24th. Out of our 5 State Region (Alabama, Florida, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Tennessee), our teams placed 5th, 8th, and 11th out of 28 qualifying teams.
It's been a great competition season for the Mountain Gap CyberPatriots, and we can all be proud of their success!
