This year, Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary added an exciting new twist to Read Across America Week—a school-wide reading chain challenge! To motivate students to read, every book completed contributed to a growing paper chain displayed in the hallways. As the chain stretched across the school, students eagerly watched to see how long it would grow. To add to the excitement, classes made predictions on how many links it would take to connect the entire hallway. The 2nd-grade grade level class had the closest estimate, earning them well-deserved bragging rights!
In addition, the challenge not only encouraged students to read more but also created a powerful visual representation of their collective efforts. Seeing the chain grow day by day reminded everyone that each book read brings them one step closer to success. This fun and interactive activity proved that reading connects us all—literally! A huge shoutout to all students and teachers for making this year’s Read Across America Week one to remember.
