February 15, 2023

It was an ugly weather night, rain and wind pouring down at Merrimack Park. However, the severe weather did not stop the Morris Middle School boys’ soccer team from pulling out a win against Chapman Middle School. The Eagles pitched a 10-0 shutout over Chapman in a fast and high-scoring affair. Morris was led on gameday by Captain Alberto Cruz, who anchored the midfield on both offense and defense. Alejandro Rodriguez led the scoring effort with 4 goals. Gerson Mejia added 2 goals. Jerson Bautista, Alex Medina, Daniel Erazo, and Jeb Moore added 1 goal apiece. The boy’s team was joined by Hgimena Lopez, Camilla Rodriguez, Elizabeth Hernandez, and April Gomez-Sanchez in the coed match. Offensively, Lopez and Rodriguez tallied 1 assist each, while Hernandez and Sanchez had multiple defensive stops.

The Morris Eagles then played Hampton Cove Wednesday, February 22. In a tough match, the Eagles defeated Hampton Cove 5-1. Gerson Mejia and Alejandro Rodriguez had 2 goals each, while Alberto Cruz added 1 goal. The team was led by Gameday Captain Erik Diaz, who had multiple stops at goalkeeper. Jeb Moore, Alex Medina, Edwin Ibarra, and Brandon Martinez’s defense held the Bulls to only 1 point in the match. The aggressive defense, combined with the high-speed offense, has enabled Morris to outscore their opponents 29-4 in their first 4 games.

The Eagles take on Whitesburg Monday, February 27, girls at 4:30 pm and boys at 6 pm at Merrimack Park.
