MMS Boys Undefeated in Inaugural Week of Soccer

The opening week of boys’ soccer at Morris Middle School was defined by victory. The Morris Middle School boys, led by gameday captain Alex Medina, defeated McNair Monday, February 6, by a score of 8-1. The high-powered offense was led by Gerson Mejia, who scored 3 goals. Alex Medina scored 2 goals, and Alvaro Canseco, Michael Estrada, and Alejandro Rodriguez added 1 goal each. The Eagles then challenged Mountain Gap on Wednesday, February 8. In a hard fought game, the Eagles emerged victorious. They were paced by game captain Gerson Mejia’s 5 goals. The final score was 6-2, with Edwin Ibarra adding an additional goal. The high powered offense was balanced by a strong defense led by Jonathan Vicente, Antonio Matias, Brandon Martinez, Samuel Cano, and Goalkeeper Erik Diaz. The Eagle’s defense has only allowed 3 goals in their first 2 games.

After the games Coach Womack said, “These players have worked their tail off conditioning and practicing. It is amazing to see their hard work finally pay off. We expect them to be leaders on and off the field, and they have shown us that they are willing to do just that.” Coach Tyler added, “These guys deserve the recognition that they are earning. We want to bring some wins to Morris and build a consistent championship program.”

The Eagles take on Chapman Middle School Wednesday, February 15 at 4:30 pm in a Co-ed matchup at Merrimack Soccer Fields. They then travel to Sparkman Middle School Friday, February 17 for a 4 pm matchup against the Cougars.
