Studies show that missing school is associated with poor outcomes for children as they grow up. According to the National Center for Education Statistics, chronic absenteeism (missing 10% or more of school days) correlates to increased high school dropout rates. Dropping out of high school has been linked to:

  • difficulty finding employment
  • a higher likelihood of health problems
  • an increased risk of involvement in the criminal justice system

It is vitally important to have students at school – on time – every day. If your child is sick, a written excuse is required. If your child tends to lose or forget things, you can  email the excuse to Ms. Garner, the Middle School front office clerk.

Community resources are available for families experiencing situations that make getting your child to school difficult. Contact us at 256-428-7340 for more information.
