A member of the Green Ambassadors waters a corner of the Outdoor Classroom

We are thrilled to announce that Morris Middle School has joined the City of Huntsville’s Green Ambassador Program! This exciting initiative is open to K-12 students, teachers, and administrators across Huntsville who are passionate about sustainability and environmental stewardship. The program offers a unique opportunity for our students to learn through hands-on, experiential education and to make a real difference in our community.

What is the Green Ambassador Program?

The Green Ambassador Program, a city-wide initiative by Huntsville, aims to engage the community’s youth in promoting sustainability and environmental responsibility. Schools that join the program receive “Green Kits,” which include curriculum materials and litter clean-up supplies to support education and awareness of best environmental practices. The program encourages students to collaborate with their teachers and sponsors on student-led sustainability projects, earning points for each activity or lesson completed.

Why is Morris Middle School Participating?

At Morris Middle School, we believe in the power of experiential learning and the importance of caring for our environment. As part of our commitment to these values, we have already begun exciting initiatives like an outdoor classroom and a farm-to-table program. These programs allow our students to engage directly with nature, learn about sustainable agriculture, and understand the importance of locally sourced food.

By joining the Green Ambassador Program, we are taking these efforts a step further, providing more opportunities for our students to develop their leadership skills, work together on meaningful projects, and contribute positively to our community. Our participation not only aligns with the city’s goals but also opens the door for our students to potentially be recognized at a state level through the Alabama State Department of Education’s Green Ribbon Award Program.

What’s Next?

Morris Middle School is excited about the possibilities this program brings. Throughout the year, our students will engage in various activities and lessons that promote sustainability. We will work together to earn points, with the aim of being recognized at the end-of-year awards ceremony hosted by the Green Ambassador Program. We look forward to making a positive impact and demonstrating exemplary performance in our commitment to a greener, more sustainable future.

Stay tuned for updates on our journey with the Green Ambassador Program, and join us in supporting our students as they lead the way toward a more sustainable Huntsville! #MorrisMiddleSchool #GreenAmbassadors #Sustainability #Huntsville #OutdoorLearning #FarmToTable #EnvironmentalStewardship
