Montview Elementary School has been celebrating Hispanic Heritage month from 9/15/2023 until 10/13/2023. Each grade level chose a Hispanic Country, researched it, and created hall displays. Students learned phrases in Spanish during morning announcements and bulletin boards recognized the contributions of Hispanic leaders. The culminating activity took place on 10/13/2023 at 9:30 a.m. in the Montview lunchroom. There were a variety of performances including Columbia High School Dance Troupe, Latin Roots Dancers, The Meaning of Hispanic Heritage Month by Ana Santos-Diaz, Mexican music by Charles Zeller, a warm welcome by community member, Rudy Chavez, and our own Honduran dance group. Students and faculty enjoyed the celebration. Montview celebrates and values the diverse backgrounds of students and families, and this was just one more example of recognizing variety in culture and language. Finally, at 2:00 p.m. students formed a parade and marched around the school and waved flags for their grade level assigned countries. Parents and community joined the event before school was dismissed for the day. Thank you to all who organized and participated.
