On October 9, 2024, Montview Elementary School held an assembly for Hispanic Heritage Month. The purpose of the assembly was to showcase music, dance and traditions of Hispanic culture. Guests from the Huntsville community included, Mr. Rodolfo Chavez who talked about his journey to America and the history of the sombrero, Columbia High Schools' dance troupe, choir and newly formed mariachi band, Ana Santos Diaz, bilingual social worker, and Mr. Charles Zeller who played the guitar while Montview students sang a traditional Mexican folk song. Our own Honduran dance troupe performed a beautiful dance and spoke about their handmade traditional costumes. This event added to our month-long activities acknowledging the contributions and achievements of Hispanics.
