New Century Students Abroad: Iceland Spring Break 2023

New Century students and teachers had a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to travel to Iceland for Spring Break 2023. This seven-day tour featured some of Iceland’s greatest wonders including Geysir (the original geyser that all the others are named after), the black sand beaches of Vik, massive waterfalls including Gullfoss, the Bridge Between the Continents, the Sólheimajökull Glacier (where we got to walk on it and climb with ice picks), and Thingvellir National Park where they filmed parts of Game of Thrones. We even had a surprise treat by getting the chance to see lava fields that were still steaming!

For many of the travelers in the group, the best part of all was seeing the spectacular display of the Northern Lights in the middle of the week when the group spent the night in Hvolsvöllur – a smaller, rural town away from the light pollution of Reykjavík. Also known as the Aurora Borealis, the Northern Lights were in prime form that night showing off vibrant shades of green, red, blue, purple, and white.

The food, excitement, and famous locations scattered around Reykjavík provided a great start and end to the entire trip. In the end, everyone agreed that we would want to go back to Iceland again with everyone excited to continue traveling as soon as possible.

Mr. Archer is planning to visit Japan next in Early Summer of 2025.
