Zadie Boyd

At New Century Technology High School, students are encouraged to soar as they pursue their passions across various disciplines.

Senior Zadie Boyd embodies this spirit, having fully embraced New Century’s wide class selection in engineering, computer science, and biomedical sciences. Initially drawn to engineering and computer science, Zadie has had opportunities to find her true passion in biomedical engineering. Her journey between strands showcases the success of magnet students no matter their academic and career pursuits.

Zadie describes her journey as one filled with exploration and discovery. “It’s very easy to get sucked in and just fall in love,” she says. Throughout her time at New Century, this love is apparent as Zadie is found at numerous events promoting the magnet program and speaking to middle school students and professionals. However, her dedication goes beyond just academics.

In her junior year, Zadie founded the New Century Technology Women in STEM club to foster inclusivity and empowerment among female students. “I wanted to create a space where we could feel connected,” she explains “It was important for me to provide specific opportunities and resources in such male-dominated fields.” The club, which is continually growing and hosting speakers and opportunities weekly, reflects Zadie’s leadership and inviting personality.

Christine King, the club’s sponsor, affirms Zadie’s impact: “Zadie exemplifies the essence of a New Century student. She truly embodies positivity and determination.”

Understanding that a well-rounded education encompasses diverse experiences and perspectives, Zadie actively engages with her peers and faculty, continually learning new skills and building meaningful relationships. As she plans for her future, the New Century community looks forward to the innovation and success she is destined to bring. However, if you ask Zadie she would give credit back to those who support her and remind you that the goal is to inspire the next generation of students to soar to even greater heights.
