Note from the Principal, January 27

Dear Whitesburg Family,

Happy Friday!

Whitesburg Elementary teachers have been working diligently with students to assist them in mastering grade level standards using several instructional tools throughout the school year. More specifically, the teachers have been using i-Ready math and reading, Accelerated Reader, and MyOn to help provide our students with tailored and additional reading and math learning opportunities.

I am happy to inform you that students can also work on their i-Ready personalized learning pathways goals outside normal school hours if they choose to do so. I ask that you encourage your students to use these programs at home if time permits. The extra engaged time will help students work on skills needed to master reading and/or math standards. It is important that this is the student’s work. If they get help with these assignments, it will give us false data, as this is a true picture of the student’s ability and where we need to focus instruction in the classroom.

MyOn is a student centered personalized digital library that provides student access to digital books. Titles are matched to each individual student’s interest, grade, and reading level. MyOn is wonderful as students can have immediate access to AR books to read, and then take an AR test when they return to school.

To access these programs at home, students can use the clever app located on their Huntsville City School’s clever app. Once inside clever, students can choose the icon for i-Ready and Renaissance. When your child enters the i-Ready program, it will automatically pick up where your child left off during school hours. If your child would like to read a book from home, they would need to click on the Renaissance icon and, once inside, click on the MyOn icon. The student can then take an Accelerated Reader test when they return to school the next day.

As always, your supportive partnership with the school is greatly appreciated. If you have questions about i-Ready, Accelerated Reader, or MyOn, please contact your child’s teacher. I am available to assist as well.

Thanks to all the parents that came to our FAST program last night. We had a nice crowd and a good night was had by all.

Remember that Whitesburg Elementary is Brick House Strong and all students do all assignments.

Thanks for being a part of our Whitesburg Elementary family.

Thanks,

Mrs. Jones
