October is Dyslexia Awareness Month!

The Dyslexia Department is providing 2 informational flyers to post as well as some resources for schools to use in supporting Dyslexia Awareness Month. These resources can be used to provide faculty members with information on what dyslexia is and how to best support students with characteristics of dyslexia. There are also resources attached that can be provided to parents of students who have characteristics of dyslexia detailing ways they can support their students at home. If space is available, we ask that you use some of the provided resources to create a bulletin board of information/famous dyslexics to support and celebrate the students we have in our district who have a diagnosis as well as our struggling readers who have characteristics of dyslexia. World Dyslexia Day is observed on October 8th. We encourage everyone to observe on Tuesday, October 8th by wearing red. We are also planning a "D.E.A.R. for Dyslexia" day on Friday, October 11th. On this day, we encourage all staff members to "drop everything and read" for a 10-15 minute time period during the day. If your school is supported by a Literacy Specialist, we have suggested to them they use this day to read to student groups and discuss what dyslexia is. We appreciate your support!
