Huntsville City Schools will be providing a variety of learning options which will be available to students this summer. See brief descriptions and links to full details for each opportunity below:
Summer Learning Academies
HCS is offering two FREE Summer Learning Academies for students currently enrolled in grades 6-11 and whose parents/guardians live in the Huntsville City Schools attendance area. Classes will be in-person at various sites and will run Mondays -Thursdays from 8:00AM-12:30PM beginning June 7 through July 2. The middle grades academy will focus on reading, English, and mathematics, while the high school academy will focus on ACT reading, ACT English, ACT writing, ACT mathematics, and ACT science. Summer School
Summer school for credit enhancement and recovery courses will be available this summer at Huntsville High School
from June 7 through July 2. Registration for summer school closed on May 7, but a late registration window will open from May 24 - June 1. In addition to credit recovery options, Driver's Ed and Health courses are offered on a first-come first-serve basis. For more information, visit the summer school page.
AP Summer Boot Camp
The AP Summer Boot Camp is a FREE learning experience that will run the week of Monday, July 12 through Friday, July 16. The camp will prepare students for success in advanced courses by learning organization, note-taking, and other content area skills in preparation for their AP courses. GATE Summer Enrichment
HCS Gifted and Talented Education (GATE) Services will be providing FREE online summer STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, & Math) learning for elementary students in grades 3-5 as well as computer programming for middle school students in grades 6-8. Summer Reading
Summer reading encourages students to practice reading skills and develop an enjoyment for reading. This year, our focus is student choice. Therefore, a list of suggested novels has been created for students to choose from. All students in grades 6-12 are required to complete a Book Talk assignment no later than Friday, August 27, 2021. Please note that Honors, AP, and IB Language students will have an additional book requirement which is normally read and taught during the first nine weeks of school.
