Huntsville City Schools is marking the final day of driver’s education courses for this summer.
The district is one of only a few school systems in the state to provide both the classroom and in-car elements of driver’s education during the COVID-19 pandemic. Students across the district are participating in the courses held at Huntsville High School.
The district implemented car-cleaning protocols including checking students’ temperatures daily, practicing social distancing in the classroom, covering vehicle seats with plastic, and disinfecting vehicles following each use.
“We are implementing car cleaning protocols that are being used by professional driver training services throughout the country,” said Dr. Jeff Wilson, HCS Director of Operations.
Completion of the course requires 30 hours of classroom training, as well as three hours of drive time.
