Huntsville City Schools (HCS) is asking stakeholders to vote on two proposed calendars for next school year. The calendar proposals follow recommendations from the Alabama State Department of Education in pushing back the start date of the 2020-2021 school year.

2020-2021 HCS Calendar Draft 2.pdfBoth calendar proposals include Monday, Aug. 17, 2020, as the first day of school with tentative graduations scheduled for May 27-28, 2021. Additionally, both proposals include 180 student days and 187 teacher days as mandated by the ALSDE.
Draft Calendar 1 has school in-session on Monday, Nov. 23, 2020 and Tuesday, Nov. 24, 2020, prior to the Thanksgiving holidays. Draft Calendar 2 marks Monday, Nov. 23, 2020 and Tuesday, Nov. 24, 2020, as e-learning student instructional days in which students engage in blended learning activities from home while all employees report to work as normal.
'This is a vital decision that impacts us all, and we ask our stakeholders for their collaboration as we make this decision together,' said HCS Superintendent Christie Finley.
