During a time in which many organizations are implementing hiring freezes due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, Huntsville City Schools (HCS) is working to bring teachers to the Rocket City.
HCS is now hiring a variety of positions in math, science, English, social studies, special education, and elementary and secondary education. Additionally, the district is looking to place teachers in elective courses including cybersecurity, art, music, Spanish, business and more.
The HCS Talent Management team is informing prospective candidates about the district's emphasis on technology, innovation and collaborative corporate partnerships to support teaching and learning. HCS is also promoting its wide variety of professional development opportunities, partnerships with universities to help teachers locate advanced degrees and investment in the National Board Certification process.
The district is hosting virtual interviews and working with colleges to conduct Zoom recruiting sessions. The HCS Talent Management Department is reaching out individually to interested candidates to support the application process.
The school system provides a three-day New Teacher Orientation to welcome new employees and work one-on-one to assist with completing onboarding documents. The district provides new teachers with mentors to provide ongoing support throughout the year.
HCS serves more than 24,000 students across more than 40 schools.
