Huntsville City Schools continued its positive trajectory according to the latest A-F report cards released by the Alabama State Department of Education (ALSDE) on Friday, Nov. 22, 2024.
HCS elevated from an 85 during the 2022-2023 school year to an 86 for 2023-2024 on the district's state score. HCS also rose from 84 to 85 on its federal score. Both increases indicate a noteworthy step forward in the district's journey toward sustained academic excellence for all students.
"These scores are not only indicators of academic performance, but they are a reflection of the dedication, consistency, and hard work of our students, staff, and families," said Dr. Clarence Sutton, HCS Superintendent. "We are proud to serve a community who values education, and we will remain focused on providing every student the opportunity to thrive both academically and personally to achieve their full potential."
Among the district’s 43 schools included in the federal scores, 34 either improved their performance or maintained strong scores from the previous year. Once again, no schools in the district received a failing grade.
Among the district’s notable successes, Monte Sano Elementary achieved a perfect score of 100. Columbia High School demonstrated the most significant improvement, increasing its score by eight points, from 62 in 2022-2023 to 70 in 2023-2024.
The report card scores are based on key performance indicators, including academic growth, college and career readiness, graduation rates, chronic absenteeism, and progress in English language proficiency.
