Zaria Costley graduated from Columbia High School in 2023. While she attended Columbia, she participated in the Health Science CTE program. Ms. Costley is now working as a Surgical Technologist in Florida.

According to Ms. Costley,“The Career and Technical Education (CTE) program played a crucial role in helping me get into the medical field. It provided me with hands-on experience and practical skills that are essential for a successful career in healthcare. Through the program, I gained a solid foundation in medical terminology, patient care, and various healthcare procedures. Additionally, the CTE program offered valuable networking opportunities with professionals in the field, which helped me secure internships and job placements.”

Ms. Costley plans to continue on with her education to become a Trauma Surgeon.

Ms. Costley added that “students should join CTE programs because they offer a unique blend of academic learning and experience that can enhance their career prospects. These programs equip students with industry-specific skills and knowledge, making them more competitive in their field . It also provides opportunities for hands-on training and real-world applications, which are invaluable for gaining confidence and competence in their chosen field. Also, the CTE program helps students build a professional network, opening doors to internships, and job placements. Overall, it's an excellent way for students to gain a head start in their careers while still in school.”
