Alexander "Kass" King

Alexander “Kass” King is a Junior at Grissom High School and is in the Additive Manufacturing program. “I love making stuff," says King, "and in middle school there was a class where we used 3D printers. We had to design/print a model airplane and test them. My airplane flew really well and I knew that I wanted to continue in a program where I got to design things.”

This is Kass’ third year in this program. He really enjoys the design work and working on projects. His favorite project so far has been the NASA Hunch project where they had to design and fabricate a stake that could be nailed to the moon.

“This class has taught me how to come up with creative solutions for a problem, not only by myself but with a team. I have learned to collaborate with other students which I believe will help me in the real world.”

Kass is planning on attending UAH or Auburn for a mechanical engineering degree and his dream is to work at NASA after college graduation. Kass is headed to the SkillsUSA state competition in April where is hoping to learn from other designers and gain a scholarship for college.

Mr. Ricky Washburn says that “Alex comes to class everyday with a smile on his face and anxious about the projects that await him. He gives 110% in everything he does and has earned every certification available from Siemens Solid Edge. I know his hard work will pay off and he will one day become a valuable designer or mechanical engineer for a great company.”
