Aiden Hensley working at a miter saw

Aiden Hensley, a dedicated ninth-grade student from Columbia High School, is proud to be in the Building Science CTE program. Always eager to engage in hands-on learning, Aiden has found the perfect fit in this program, which aligns with his passion for working with tools and creating tangible projects.

One of the key lessons Aiden has gained through the program is the importance of shop safety, reflecting the age-old wisdom: "Measure twice, cut once." This principle not only emphasizes precision but also underscores the significance of careful planning in every project. Recently, Aiden has had the opportunity to learn how to safely operate a miter saw, a vital tool that ensures accurate and angled cuts. Alongside the miter saw, he has gained experience working with table saws, drill presses, and a variety of battery-operated hand tools, such as handheld band saws.

Beyond the technical skills, another core aspect of the Building Science program is the ability to read and interpret blueprints. Through this valuable skill, Aiden has learned how to bring an architect’s vision to life, transforming detailed designs into complete structures.

Looking ahead, Aiden is excited about the future opportunities that the Building Science program will open for him. With the skills he is developing, he is considering a future in a trade program or pursuing a career as a combat engineer with the U.S. Army. Aiden understands that the practical knowledge he is gaining will be a crucial steppingstone to a bright and promising future.

The Building Science program through Huntsville City Schools is not just about learning technical skills; it's about preparing students like Aiden for the workforce and equipping them with the expertise they need to succeed in their chosen paths.
